Deputy Chief retiring after 29 years of service
Deputy
Police Chief Michael Rodriguez is retiring from the Buffalo Grove Police
Department on May 2, 2025, after nearly 29 years of distinguished service.
“I am
incredibly grateful for the relationships and community partnerships I’ve
developed over the course of my career in Buffalo Grove,” Rodriguez said. “The
professionalism and sincere passion for community safety that our officers show
daily, coupled with the tremendous community support we receive, is what made
my time here so enjoyable.”
Throughout
his tenure, Rodriguez was known for his commitment to professionalism,
innovation, and community engagement. He played a key role in advancing
initiatives related to traffic safety, crisis response, and community-police
relations. His focus on mentorship and officer development helped shape a
strong internal culture of service and integrity within the department
Rodriguez
is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, all three of Northwestern
University’s School of Police Staff and Command leadership programs and holds a
master’s degree in law enforcement and justice administration. Rodriguez is
also a Certified Police Executive and a member of both the Illinois and
International Associations of Chiefs of Police. His service has been recognized
with numerous awards, including a Life-Saving Award, the ILACP Rising Shields
of Law Enforcement Award, and international recognition for his community
outreach efforts.
“Deputy
Chief Rodriguez has been a tremendous leader and mentor whose contributions to
our department and the Buffalo Grove community will have a lasting impact,”
Police Chief Brian Budds said. “We extend our deepest gratitude and warmest
wishes to Deputy Chief Rodriguez for a fulfilling and well-earned retirement.”
